LinksDNA was born from a personal journey of discovery. In 2018, our founder, Laurie Kantor Finn, experienced the transformative power of DNA firsthand, igniting a passion that led to the creation of LinksDNA. Laurie has since honed her skills in the field of investigative genetic genealogy (IGG), completed Ramapo College of New Jersey’s IGG Certification Program where she was able to contribute work on several unknown human remains cases, and further expanded her skills by attending their intensive IGG Bootcamp. She continues to volunteer with their IGG center.
At LinksDNA, Laurie and her team provide professional genetic genealogy services for individuals seeking to uncover their family origins, with a particular focus on assisting adoptees and those with unknown parentage. Law enforcement and innocence project cases are handled ethically and by referral.

“Hello all! I joined this group approximately a year and a half ago! I was in search of my BF. Almost immediately after my first post, I was adopted by a wonderful person who became my search angel. Even though my DNA was out there and it was supposed to be easy…..other folks had answers in no time! But me…..about a year in, I was ready to give up and just call it quits, but my search angel Laurie Kantor Finn would not let me quit! Along the way she even picked up other family members who were also searching! She was determined to get to the bottom of my DNA rabbit hole!

“It’s been nearly four months of stress, excitement, doubt, hopelessness, fear and so many more emotions, but with the incredible investigative help of Laurie Kantor Finn and Denise, I finally have an answer as to who my dad is.
People said not to listen to stories because people lie and the DNA doesn’t. Despite that advice, I did pursue a story that lead to a dead end, however the DNA, which made no sense at first, slowly lead to some answers. When we started looking at my DNA matches, an overwhelming majority of my matches were in one county in California. One thing lead to another and they had a short-lived affair that lead to me being born after my mom got back with the man who would eventually raise me as his own (and the man I will always call dad, because that’s who he was to me up until the day he died). He took an ancestry test for me and the results came back showing that I shared 50% DNA with him, with the label being “Father”. Although my search angels’ research prepared me for that answer, I was still bittersweet reading it.
I plan on writing a letter to my mom (thanks to Laurie for the guidance) and having her read it at dinner soon. This will allow me to pre-plan my thoughts, express feelings that aren’t gut reactions, and allow me to express myself without interruption.
I plan on having my bio dad over for dinner to get to know him better. He’s excited to get to know me more and his family, in general, seems to be elated to add a new member to the family.
I wanted to publicly thank Laurie and Denise for all of their help. They spent countless hours researching my tree, coming up with possibilities, entertaining my theories, and being super supportive throughout the process. I literally could not have done this without you two and will be forever thankful for your unwavering, non-judgmental, help. I’m sure I’m leaving a lot out, but the sentiment remains the same.
